JOB PURPOSE:
The Boiler Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the boiler and steam generation system to provide a continuous supply of steam for feed production processes. The role supports uninterrupted manufacturing operations by maintaining optimal boiler performance, conducting routine inspections, monitoring water treatment systems, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, food safety, and quality standards while maximizing equipment reliability and energy efficiency.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Operate, monitor, and control the boiler system to ensure a continuous and reliable steam supply for feed production.
- Start up, shut down, and adjust boiler operations according to production schedules and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor boiler pressure, temperature, water level, fuel consumption, and steam output to maintain optimal operating conditions.
- Supply steam to pellet mills and other production equipment while ensuring stable pressure and temperature.
- Monitor and maintain boiler water treatment systems to ensure proper water quality and prevent scaling, corrosion, and equipment damage.
- Conduct routine inspections of boilers, burners, pumps, valves, piping, steam traps, and safety devices.
- Perform daily operational checks and record equipment readings, operating parameters, water treatment results, and maintenance activities.
- Identify equipment abnormalities and report faults promptly to minimize downtime.
- Assist the Maintenance team during preventive maintenance, planned shutdowns, and equipment repairs.
- Respond quickly and safely to boiler alarms, operational failures, and emergency situations.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping standards within the boiler house and utility areas.
- Ensure compliance with company Health, Safety, Environmental, Food Safety, and Quality Management System requirements.
- Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, and Quality teams to ensure uninterrupted utility services.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance boiler efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and improve equipment reliability.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- Technical Diploma or High School Diploma with vocational training in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Boiler Operator certification or license is preferred, where applicable.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience operating industrial boilers in a feed mill, food manufacturing, or similar industrial environment.
- Experience with steam generation systems, water treatment, and biomass, diesel, or gas-fired boilers is an advantage.
