Job Purpose
To ensure a safe and healthy working environment by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing occupational health and safety standards, policies, and procedures. The Safety Officer is responsible for identifying potential hazards, conducting inspections, delivering safety training, and ensuring compliance with legal and organizational safety requirements in order to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure the implementation of all occupational health and safety (OHS) policies, procedures, and standards across the workplace.
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts or practices, and hazards, and ensure timely corrective actions are taken.
- Monitor compliance with local regulatory requirements, company safety policies, and international safety standards.
- Deliver safety inductions, awareness sessions, and training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports with root cause analysis and recommend preventive measures.
- Ensure the proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Coordinate emergency response drills and fire evacuation exercises, and ensure the readiness of first aid and firefighting equipment.
- Report safety performance (including fire pump readings and fire alarm system status), issues, and progress to management, and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a strong safety culture by encouraging safe behaviors and discouraging unsafe practices at all levels of the organization.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in a relevant field (Occupational Health & Safety), with a "ممارس" (Practitioner) classification from Kawader.
- Recognized professional safety certifications (NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH) are preferred.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of practical experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in an industrial or food manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of local occupational health and safety regulations and Civil Defense requirements.
- Proficiency in risk assessment, incident investigation, and report preparation.
- Effective communication and coordination skills with employees and contractors at all levels.
- Proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office programs.
